Board of Directors

George Cohen- Chair George Cohen, CPA, is Senior Managing Director with RSM McGladrey Inc. He has more than 25 years of experience providing accounting, business and tax services in various industries and professions with a specialty in healthcare. Formerly co-owner and partner with Schwartz Cohen and Company, Cohen is well known in the Valley for his work within the healthcare community. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Phoenix Art Museum and a member of the American Express Arizona Philanthropic Foundation Board. He is also past President, Treasurer and Board Member of Actors Theatre of Phoenix. Cohen has served as Phoenix Arts Commission Commissioner and is recipient of the Arts Advocate of the Year Award from Business Volunteers for the Arts. He has served as the chair of the Jewish Commission on Continuity and serves on the Executive Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, where he has been a Board Member since 1992. Previously, Cohen has served as president and board member of the Council for Jews with Special Needs and the Tri-City Jewish Community Center.

Layne R. Simmons- Chair-Elect

Layne Simmons, CPA, is the Vice President of Tax at Waste Services, Inc. (WSI) He previously served a term on the Society's Board of Directors and Layne is a former chairman of the Society's Tax Legislation Committee, where as committee chairman, he spoke before the Arizona Senate Finance Committee, the Arizona House Ways and Means Committee and Arizona House Commerce Committee explaining the Society's proposed tax legislation. Layne is a member of the Board of Directors and a former President of the Arizona Chapter of Tax Executives Institute, the nation's preeminent association of corporate tax professionals. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of Arizona Tax Research Association. Prior to joining WSI, Layne was the Executive Director of Tax at Viad Corp., having worked prior to that in the Phoenix office of Deloitte Haskins & Sells (Deloitte & Touche). He has been married to his wife, Deena, for 21 years and they have three children.
